BALTIMORE — In an impressive display of skill, Toby Nnadozie scored 20 points to lead Coppin State to a 68-60 triumph over Navy on Saturday.
Nnadozie also contributed three steals for the Eagles, who improved their record to 1-12. Jonathan Dunn was another key player, netting 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds; he shot 4 for 13 from the field, including 1 for 3 from beyond the arc, and completed 4 of 6 free throws. Julius Ellerbe added 11 points to the mix, going 3 for 9 from the floor, including a 1-for-4 performance from three-point land, and hitting 4 of 6 from the line. This victory ended a challenging 12-game losing streak for the Eagles.
The Midshipmen, now 3-9, were paced by Austin Benigni, who put up 23 points. Jinwoo Kim contributed 13 points and also recorded three steals for Navy, while Jordan Pennick chipped in with 10 points.
Coppin State took control of the game with just 3:38 remaining in the first half and maintained their lead throughout. At halftime, the Eagles held a 28-22 advantage, thanks in part to Dunn’s eight points. The second half saw Coppin State narrowly outscore Navy by two points, largely due to Nnadozie’s standout performance, which included 13 points.
Looking ahead, Coppin State will face Georgetown on the road next Saturday, while Navy will travel to William & Mary for a matchup on Sunday.
