Key performers Zack Austin and Ishmael Leggett each contributed an impressive 23 points to the victory, while Jaland Lowe achieved a notable double-double with 18 points and 11 assists. The Panthers’ performance was particularly dominant, as Lowe’s assist total exceeded the combined output of the Bearkats.

Austin, who shot 8-for-12 from the field, displayed his long-range shooting skills by sinking 5 out of 9 three-point attempts. Likewise, Leggett also had an excellent shooting day with 3 of 4 successful three-pointers. On the other side, Cameron Huefner led the scoring for Sam Houston State with 26 points, tying his career record, while Lamar Wilkerson added 15 points to the team’s effort.

The advantage allowed Pitt to maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Currently, the Panthers hold a record of 10-2, marking their best season start since 2016-17. Meanwhile, Sam Houston State’s record stands at 6-6, as they anticipate hosting NCAA Division III opponent Dallas on December 28. The Panthers will be back in action next, hosting Cal on New Year’s Day.
