WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Abdi Bashir Jr. led his team with an impressive performance, scoring 27 points in Monmouth’s 88-74 win over Fairfield on Saturday.

Bashir had a shooting line of 9 for 21 overall, managing to sink 5 of 10 attempts from beyond the arc, and he also hit 4 out of 5 free throws. The Hawks, who now hold a record of 2-10, saw additional contributions from Jack Collins, who tallied 13 points, hitting 5 of 8 from the field, and 3 of 6 from three-point range, along with five assists. Madison Durr also made a notable impact, scoring 12 points, including 4 of 6 shooting from the floor and a solid 4 for 5 from the charity stripe.

On the opposing side, the Stags (5-7, 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) were led by Prophet Johnson, who registered a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Braden Sparks contributed 16 points and recorded two steals, while Deon Perry added 12 points, six assists, and three steals to the mix.

Monmouth took command of the game early, seizing the lead 16:32 into the first half and managing to maintain it throughout. They entered halftime with a 43-33 lead, with Bashir scoring 11 points by that point. In the second half, Monmouth outscored Fairfield by four points, with Bashir further enhancing his tally with 16 additional points to secure the victory for his team.

Looking ahead, Monmouth is set to face Auburn on the road next Monday, while Fairfield will head to Columbia for their matchup on Saturday.
