Thienou contributes 18 points as No. 25 Ole Miss women dominate Mississippi Valley State with a 78-44 victory

OXFORD, Miss. — Sira Thienou starred for No. 25 Mississippi, notching 13 of her 18 points in the first two quarters as the Rebels overwhelmed Mississippi Valley State with a final score of 78-44 on Saturday.

The game kicked off with Ole Miss establishing a commanding presence, scoring the first 13 points, with Thienou contributing seven of those. Although the Devilettes managed to respond with a nine-point streak, they found themselves trailing only 17-10 by the conclusion of the first quarter.

Thienou showcased her skills by successfully making all three of her three-point attempts in the first half, allowing the Rebels to secure a 36-24 advantage at halftime. A strong 9-0 spurt by Ole Miss stretched their lead to 35-16 late in the second quarter, but Jaeda Murphy managed to score the last five points before the break, narrowing the gap to a 12-point difference.

Coming out strong in the third quarter, Ole Miss executed an impressive 11-2 run followed by a 10-0 run, increasing their lead to 59-35 as they entered the final quarter.

In addition to Thienou’s performance, Starr Jacobs and Madison Scott contributed 13 points each for the Rebels (8-3), while Kennedy Todd-Williams and Kharyssa Richardson added 12 points each. Scott also recorded a noteworthy game with 10 rebounds and six assists, and Todd-Williams grabbed eight rebounds alongside two blocks. Thienou rounded out her game with four steals.

For the Devilettes (1-10), D’Yanna Maxey scored 10 points, but her efforts were not enough to close the gap. The Rebels’ lead grew to as much as 36 points during the fourth quarter.

In terms of stats, the Rebels dominated the boards with a 46-25 rebounding advantage, including an impressive 24 offensive rebounds that converted into 22 second-chance points. Moreover, they outscored the Devilettes 40-16 in points within the paint.

Mississippi next faces Alcorn State at home on December 20 before they kick off Southeastern Conference play against Auburn on January 2.
