PHILADELPHIA — Erik Reynolds II made a significant impact with five successful 3-pointers, contributing a total of 25 points as Saint Joseph’s secured an 82-62 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday.

This triumph marked the Hawks’ first consecutive wins since achieving a three-game streak in November. Reynolds’ crucial shot from beyond the arc, with just 27 seconds remaining in the first half, propelled Saint Joseph’s (8-4) to a slight 32-30 advantage at the halftime break. Following the Hokies’ two free throws to open the second half, Reynolds initiated a decisive 10-0 run, extending the lead to 42-32.

Derek Simpson further solidified the Hawks’ position with his second 3-pointer of the half, pushing the score to 47-34 as the clock dipped below 16 minutes. Although Virginia Tech, led by Ben Hammond, attempted to close the gap with a deep shot that brought them within 10 at 54-44, Saint Joseph’s remained resilient. Anthony Finkley responded with a critical 3-point shot, and Reynolds followed suit with a layup, allowing the Hawks to pull ahead decisively.

Reynolds completed the game with 10 successful field goals on 19 attempts, converting 5 out of 11 three-point shots, while also contributing three assists, two steals, and a block. Simpson was effective as well, shooting 4 of 8 from behind the arc, finishing with 18 points. Rasheer Fleming added to the Hawks’ scoring with a flawless 8 of 8 from the free-throw line for another 18 points, coupled with eight rebounds. Finkley provided additional support with 13 points, making 3 of 4 from long range. Overall, Saint Joseph’s exhibited a strong shooting performance, finishing 15 of 32 from three-point territory.

Virginia Tech had Hammond contributing 11 points while Ben Burnham made a notable impact off the bench, finishing 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to contribute his own 11 points.

Looking ahead, Saint Joseph’s is set to face Delaware State on December 28 before kicking off their Atlantic 10 Conference campaign against UMass on New Year’s Eve. Virginia Tech (5-7, 0-1) will turn its focus to Atlantic Coast Conference action, facing No. 5 Duke on New Year’s Eve.
