BOSTON — In an impressive performance, Matt Cross contributed significantly to SMU’s victory over Boston College with 20 points, 17 of which were scored before halftime. Boopie Miller also made a notable impact, scoring 18 points as SMU triumphed 103-77 on Saturday.
The Mustangs demonstrated remarkable accuracy on the court, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of 64.4%, hitting 38 out of 59 shots, which included a stellar 68.8% from beyond the arc with 11 successful 3-pointers. SMU’s efficiency improved even further in the second half, where they converted 16 of 27 shots for 59.2%. B.J. Edwards also made a contribution with 16 points, while bench players Chuck Harris and Jerrell Corbert added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
For Boston College, Donald Hand Jr. led the scoring with 22 points, supported by Dion Brown, who chipped in with 20 points, and Elijah Strong, who added 10 points. Despite Brown’s layup narrowing the gap to 60-57 with just under 15 minutes remaining, the Eagles could not draw closer.
Keon Ambrose-Hylton changed the momentum of the game with two back-to-back dunks within a 20-second window, boosting SMU’s lead to 78-67. In that period, Colbert excelled, scoring nine of his total points in just over three minutes during a significant 14-0 scoring streak for the Mustangs, which extended their lead to 92-69 with 4:17 left to play.
Boston College began strong, taking a 21-13 lead after Strong completed a three-point play at the 13:04 mark of the first half. However, SMU quickly regrouped, with Yohan Traore, Ambrose-Hylton, and Edwards responding with layups. Harris’s 3-pointer marked a pivotal moment, sparking a 9-0 run that put SMU ahead 22-21. Edwards then converted a three-point play to make it 27-26, and the Mustangs maintained the lead for the remainder of the first half, heading to the locker room with a 47-40 advantage.
Looking ahead, SMU will host Longwood on December 29, while Boston College is set to face Fairleigh Dickinson on December 28.
