Yale’s basketball team achieved a victory over Akron with a final score of 74-58 during the Sun Bowl Invitational on Friday evening. Nick Townsend was standout for the Bulldogs, contributing significantly by scoring 18 points and securing 11 rebounds, demonstrating his all-around performance on the court.
Casey Simmons also had an impressive game, notching 17 points while shooting an efficient 7 of 10 from the field. In addition to his scoring, Simmons contributed defensively with 13 rebounds and three blocks, further solidifying Yale’s strong performance. Teammates Bez Mbeng and Trevor Mullin each made contributions of 11 points, helping the Bulldogs improve to a 6-5 record for the season.
On the other hand, Akron, now at 6-4 for the season, was led by Tavari Johnson, who tallied an impressive 23 points. Shammah Scott supported the effort with 10 points, while Sharron Young chipped in with eight points, but the team ultimately fell short against Yale’s strong offense and defense.
