Tesla is initiating a recall that affects nearly 700,000 vehicles due to a malfunction in the tire pressure monitoring system’s warning light.
The recall was announced in a letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and includes specific models such as the 2024 Cybertruck, as well as the Model 3 from the years 2017 to 2025 and the Model Y from 2020 to 2025.
The primary concern is that the warning light may not stay lit between driving cycles, which could prevent drivers from being alerted to low tire pressure. This situation poses an increased risk of accidents, as driving on under-inflated tires can affect vehicle handling and lead to tire failure.
In response to this issue, Tesla plans to issue a complimentary software update to rectify the problem.
Notifications will be sent to vehicle owners starting February 15, 2025. For additional assistance, Tesla’s customer service can be contacted at 1-877-798-3752. Drivers can also reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for guidance.
Throughout the year, Tesla has been facing various recall issues. Notably, the Cybertruck has seen its seventh recall this year, with a previous recall affecting about 2,400 vehicles last month.
The company, led by Elon Musk, began delivering the first few units of the much-anticipated Cybertruck to customers in November 2023, which was significantly delayed from the original launch date by two years.
Earlier in the year, the automaker faced a recall of over 1.8 million vehicles due to a problem with the hood that raised safety concerns. Additionally, in February, Tesla recalled close to 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. due to issues with the size of warning lights on the dashboard displays.
