MANCHESTER, England — On Wednesday, Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, expressed the importance of keeping forward Marcus Rashford at the club following the player’s recent remarks indicating he is open to new opportunities. Rashford was notably omitted from the matchday squad for United’s recent victory over Manchester City, a decision that has stirred considerable speculation regarding his future with the team.

In a Tuesday interview, Rashford shared, “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings,'” as reported by journalist Henry Winter. This statement has fueled conversations about his next move and potential departure from Manchester United.

When discussing Rashford’s situation, Amorim took a careful approach, acknowledging the player’s talent. “Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he’s a big talent,” he remarked in a press conference. Amorim emphasized, “So, he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus,” reinforcing his commitment to support Rashford’s performance.

Rashford, 27, is tied to Manchester United with a contract that extends until 2028. He rose through the ranks of the club’s prestigious academy, which has produced legendary players such as Bobby Charlton, George Best, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham. However, his form has dipped since signing a new contract in 2023, as evidenced by his tally of only eight goals in the previous season and a subsequent fall from the England national team. Since Amorim’s arrival in November, Rashford has managed to net three goals in his last six outings. Yet, he was taken off after just 56 minutes in his recent game against Viktoria Plzen and then left out entirely for the clash against City.
