MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers have welcomed Julio Borbón to their coaching staff as the new first base coach. His appointment follows a three-year tenure with the Minnesota Twins organization.
The announcement was made by Matt Arnold, the president of baseball operations for the Brewers. Borbón steps in to replace Quintin Berry, who served as the team’s first base coach for four years before departing to take on the role of third base coach for the Chicago Cubs.
At 38 years old, Borbón has substantial experience, having worked as the assistant coordinator of instruction in player development with the Twins since 2022. Prior to that, he was a part of the New York Yankees’ minor league system from 2019 to 2021.
Borbón’s playing career spanned several years in Major League Baseball, during which he participated in 294 games. He played for the Texas Rangers from 2009 to 2011, spent time with the Chicago Cubs in 2013, and later joined the Baltimore Orioles in 2016.
This hiring finalizes the coaching staff for Pat Murphy, who was named the 2024 National League Manager of the Year. The coaching team features several key figures, including associate manager Rickie Weeks, field coordinator Néstor Corredor, and third base coach Jason Lane. Other members include pitching coach Chris Hook, assistant pitching and strategy coach Jim Henderson, and bullpen coach Charlie Greene. The hitting department comprises lead hitting coach Al LeBoeuf, along with hitting coaches Connor Dawson and Eric Theisen. Additionally, Daniel de Mondesert serves as an assistant coach, and Matt Erickson handles infield coaching duties. The Brewers’ bullpen catchers are Christian Correa and Adam Weisenburger.
The coaching staff has also seen the addition of LeBoeuf and Theisen, whose appointments were made public in October. The Brewers are gearing up for an exciting season ahead with these new coaching dynamics.
