LOS ANGELES – Janiah Barker recorded her fourth double-double of the season, contributing 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, as top-ranked UCLA maintained control throughout their game, securing a dominant 69-37 victory over Cal Poly on Monday evening at Pauley Pavilion.

Londynn Jones and Angela Dugalic also chipped in with 12 points each during UCLA’s first home matchup since they ascended to the No. 1 position in the Associated Press Top 25 poll on November 25. Timea Gardiner contributed an additional 11 points for the Bruins (11-0), who played without their leading scorer and rebounder, Lauren Betts. The junior center, who ranks third in the Big Ten with an average of 19.8 points per game, missed the game due to a lower leg injury.

Mary Carter led Cal Poly (4-6) with 11 points, but the team has struggled lately, losing four of their last five games.

In terms of performance, Cal Poly showed improvement in their second trip to Los Angeles this season, compared to their earlier performance where they were defeated 90-35 by No. 7 USC on November 9.

For UCLA, this marks the second consecutive season and the third occasion in coach Cori Close’s 14-year tenure that the Bruins have achieved the feat of winning their first 11 games.

A key moment in the game occurred when Annika Shah hit a three-pointer, narrowing the gap to 25-16 early in the second quarter. However, the Bruins swiftly responded with a 12-2 run, featuring two three-pointers from Dugalic.

Statistically, Cal Poly struggled, shooting only 25.9% from the field (14 of 54) and recorded a dismal 2 of 15 shooting performance in the final quarter.

In their upcoming games, both teams will return to the court on Friday. Cal Poly will face Seattle University at home, while UCLA is set to play Creighton in the Invisalign Bay Area Women’s Basketball Classic located in San Francisco.
