CHARLESTON, S.C. — Ante Brzovic scored 21 points, leading the Charleston Cougars to a 77-67 victory over the Wofford Terriers on Monday evening.
Brzovic not only excelled in scoring but also contributed significantly with seven rebounds, six assists, and five blocks in the game, solidifying his role as a key player for the Cougars, who improved their record to 8-2.
Deywilk Tavarez was another standout for Charleston, netting 17 points and displaying impressive shooting skills, making 5 of his 9 attempts from the field and an exceptional 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. He also sank 3 of his 4 free throw attempts. AJ Smith added to the scoring with 12 points, finishing the game with a shooting performance of 4 for 10 from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line.
On the other side, Justin Bailey guided the Wofford Terriers, who now hold a record of 4-7, with 13 points and also made three steals. His efforts were complemented by Kyler Filewich, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and an impressive 16 rebounds, along with two blocks. Luke Flynn also contributed to the scoring for Wofford with 11 points.
The first half concluded with both teams tied at 34-34. Brzovic played a crucial role in keeping Charleston competitive during this period with nine points. The turning point came when Tavarez hit a 3-pointer just 1:57 into the second half, which allowed Charleston to gain momentum and take the lead permanently at 40-37.
