Veteran threesome propels Miami to break 7-game losing streak with 94-75 win against Presbyterian

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — In an impressive performance, Matt Cleveland amassed a career-best 24 points, while teammates Brandon Johnson and Lynn Kidd contributed 22 and 20 points, respectively. Their stellar play guided the Miami Hurricanes to a much-needed 94-75 victory over the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Sunday, terminating a seven-game losing streak.

Cleveland showcased his shooting prowess, hitting 9 of 12 shots from the field, including two 3-pointers, and successfully converting 4 of 5 free throws. Johnson followed suit, making 9 of 11 attempts along with two 3-pointers, while Kidd achieved efficiency with 8 of 9 shots and added six assists, marking his third double-double of the season.

Off the bench, Jalen Blackmon contributed nine points, sinking three out of Miami’s seven 3-pointers. For the Blue Hose, Kory Mincy led the charge with 14 points. Kobe Stewart, Carl Parrish, and Kaleb Scott each added 13 points, while Jaylen Peterson, coming off the bench, scored 12 points and secured a team-high eight rebounds.

Kidd had a standout first half, netting 14 points on a perfect shooting night and grabbing nine rebounds. Johnson also had a tremendous first half with 13 points, helping Miami establish a comfortable 49-33 lead at halftime. The pivotal moment came after Kidd collected an offensive rebound and assisted Johnson on a 3-pointer, providing Miami their first lead at 12-10 with 13:43 left in the first half, a lead they maintained for the remainder of the game.

In the second half, Cleveland continued to find success in the paint, widening Miami’s advantage to over 20 points at 58-37 with 17 minutes left. Kidd further extended the lead, scoring off a turnover, which led to the Hurricanes achieving their largest margin of the game at 87-62 with just 5:19 remaining.

Next up, Miami will host Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, while Presbyterian will welcome Virginia-Lynchburg to their home court on Wednesday.
