NORMAN, Okla. — Raegan Beers delivered an impressive performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds, helping the 10th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners secure a dominant 94-54 victory over Oral Roberts on Sunday.
Zya Vann also contributed significantly, matching Beers’ point total of 14, while Payton Verhulst added 12 points and came close to a double-double with nine rebounds. The win marks Oklahoma’s third consecutive victory after their overtime loss to Duke on November 27, improving their record to 9-1.
For Oral Roberts, Ruthie Udoumoh led the team with 15 points on a solid 7-of-12 shooting. Jalei Oglesby also had a noteworthy game, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. However, the Golden Eagles struggled, managing only 20 field goals out of 63 attempts (31.7%) and converting a mere 3 out of 20 (15%) from beyond the arc, which hindered their chances of keeping pace with the Sooners.
In terms of tactics, Oral Roberts fielded a lineup of five guards against Oklahoma, with Udoumoh being the tallest at 6 feet 1 inch. This strategy fell flat, as they faced significant rebounding deficiencies, being outrebounded 59-34 overall, which included a staggering 24-8 deficit in offensive rebounds. They were also outscored 48-30 in the paint.
For Oklahoma, the game showcased their depth, with freshman Zya Vann achieving her season-high in scoring alongside contributions from six other players who scored during the game.
The defining moment of the match came during the first half when Oklahoma jumped to a 24-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and dominated the second, outscoring Oral Roberts 25-8 to head into halftime with a commanding 49-19 lead.
One notable statistic from the game is that Oral Roberts began the match by missing their first 10 attempts from three-point range, only finally breaking that drought when Emily Robinson made a shot with 6:16 left in the third quarter.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma is set to face No. 14 Michigan in the Jumpman Invitational on Tuesday, while Oral Roberts will travel to Missouri for their next match on Wednesday.
