MALELANE, South Africa — Shaun Norris of South Africa made a remarkable comeback to capture the Alfred Dunhill Championship by just one stroke on Sunday.
Norris started the final round six shots behind the leader but managed to shoot a 5-under 67 at the Leopard Creek Country Club, bringing his total score to 13-under 275. The 42-year-old golfer faced a challenge when he recorded a double bogey on the par-three seventh hole but persevered to secure his second victory on the European Tour.
His prior title also came from a tournament in South Africa, when he triumphed at the Steyn City Championship in 2022.
The overnight leader Marcus Kinhult, who entered the final round with a two-shot advantage, finished tied for second along with John Parry and Ryan van Velzen.
Norris’ victory wasn’t confirmed until Van Velzen faltered with a bogey on the final hole, allowing Norris to celebrate his hard-fought win.
“I’m extremely pleased that things turned out this way,” said a visibly emotional Norris. “This past year has been challenging. It has had its ups and downs. However, with gratitude to God, my family, and my wife, we’ve managed to stay strong together. Winning two weeks ago in Japan at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup and following it up with this victory is truly a blessing.”
This event marked the second consecutive week that the European Tour took place in South Africa, following the Nedbank Golf Challenge from the previous week.
