COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alex Killorn netted his second goal during a breakaway just 1:43 into overtime, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. This win allowed Anaheim to conclude their four-game road trip on a high note.
Jackson LaCombe contributed with a goal and an assist, while Mason McTavish celebrated reaching 100 points in the NHL with a goal of his own. Killorn also provided an assist, and Robby Fabbri set up two goals. Goaltender John Gibson was instrumental in the win, making 39 saves, which helped the Ducks (11-14-4) break a five-game losing streak.
For Columbus (12-13-5), the goals came from Cole Sillinger, Kirill Marchenko, and James van Riemsdyk. Unfortunately, the Blue Jackets’ struggles at home continued, as they faced their third consecutive loss and have now lost six out of their last seven games. Jet Greaves was in net for Columbus, making 23 saves.
Anaheim’s victory was significant, particularly as it came on the same day the team traded veteran defenseman Cam Fowler to St. Louis. The Ducks showcased their resilience by overcoming two separate one-goal deficits to secure a well-deserved win. Notably, they have now emerged victorious in their last six encounters at Nationwide Arena since 2018.
On the other hand, Columbus made strides in improving its forecheck and played with renewed intensity, which was notably absent in recent outings. However, they again fell short, losing their second consecutive game in overtime.
One key moment in the game occurred late in the third period when Anaheim pulled goalie Gibson, allowing LaCombe to score during a power play at 17:14. Killorn then capped the game with his decisive goal in overtime, securing the win for the Ducks.
In terms of statistics, Kent Johnson extended his points streak to four games with an assist on Marchenko’s goal. He has now registered points in 13 of the first 16 games this season, with contributions in all nine of his contests at Nationwide Arena.
Looking ahead, the Ducks will host the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday, while the Blue Jackets will travel to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
