Maxx Crosby announces ankle surgery, sidelining him for the remainder of the Raiders season.

HENDERSON, Nev. — Maxx Crosby, the standout defensive end for the Raiders, is set to have ankle surgery, ending his season prematurely amidst a challenging period for the Las Vegas team. The Raiders, currently struggling with a nine-game losing streak and holding a record of 2-11, have seen a significant reduction in their defensive lineup due to injuries that have plagued the roster since the start of the season.

Las Vegas is scheduled to host the Atlanta Falcons in a Monday night matchup. Crosby took to social media to express his determination despite the setback, stating, “I can feel bad for myself and make excuses but I … refuse. I will get this surgery & be on a war path for greatness everyday and be back the best version of myself. I truly believe in my soul that I’m changing the game one snap at a time and changing the way this position is viewed.”

Crosby’s absence will be a significant blow to a unit already struggling with injuries. He has been a key player on the defensive front and a respected leader in the locker room. Remarkably, he had previously played four straight seasons without missing a game. Last season, Crosby dealt with an injured ankle and was not at full capacity after sustaining another injury during the match against Baltimore on September 15, which led him to miss a game against the Cleveland Browns on September 29.

Expressing no regrets about his commitment to the game, Crosby mentioned, “I have absolutely zero regrets with my process, my approach and my discipline to this game. Instead of sitting out for over a month with my first high ankle sprain @ Baltimore, I only missed 1 game and came back and fought all year because that’s who I am.” This season, he has tallied 7.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, putting him just half a sack away from achieving a significant career milestone of 60 sacks, a feat only two other Raiders players have reached since 1982.

Unfortunately, Crosby will have to wait until the next season to pursue that goal after sustaining an injury last week while playing against Tampa Bay. He reflected on the situation, stating, “As much as it pains me not to go to war with my brothers and for the fans, I truly believe everything happens for a reason.”

In addition to Crosby’s situation, the Raiders face uncertainty at the quarterback position. Aidan O’Connell, who has been dealing with a bruised left knee, is listed as questionable after missing practice for three consecutive days, although coach Antonio Pierce remains optimistic about his participation. Should O’Connell be unable to play, Desmond Ridder could step in as a starter, revisiting his previous club after starting 13 games for the Falcons last season.

On the defensive side, cornerback Nate Hobbs practiced fully and did not receive an injury designation, aiming to make his return after not playing since November 3 due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Adam Butler is questionable due to a concussion, and cornerback Sam Webb has been listed as doubtful with a back issue.
