BARCELONA, Spain — Isak Andic, the visionary behind the renowned Spanish fashion label Mango, tragically passed away following an accident, as confirmed by the company on Saturday. He was 71 years old.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and the founder of Mango, in an accident that took place this Saturday,” stated Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, in an official communication, though no additional details regarding the incident were given.

Reports from the Spanish news agency EFE and several other news organizations, including La Vanguardia, indicated that Andic lost his life after falling while hiking in a location near Barcelona.

Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, honored Andic via social media, recognizing his “dedication and entrepreneurial foresight that transformed a regional brand into a leader in global fashion.”

Andic was born in Turkey but relocated to Spain during his childhood. He opened the inaugural Mango store in Barcelona in 1984 and played a crucial role in the brand’s development into one of Europe’s foremost fast-fashion retailers in the years that followed.

Currently, Mango operates 2,700 stores across 120 countries. In 2023, the company achieved landmark sales of 3.1 billion euros (approximately $3.2 billion). It is actively pursuing expansion within the U.S. market, aiming to establish 65 stores there by the conclusion of 2025.
