The Toronto Blue Jays have officially secured a two-year deal valued at $15 million with right-handed pitcher Yimi García, as confirmed on Friday.
García, who is 34 years old, was acquired by the Seattle Mariners from Toronto in a trade on July 26, where he was exchanged for outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher/outfielder Jacob Sharp. During his short stint with Seattle, García pitched in 10 games, accumulating a 6.00 ERA over nine innings.
Throughout the 2023 season, he posted an overall record of 3-0, with a respectable 3.46 ERA and five saves while participating in 39 games and pitching 39 innings.
Over his ten-year career in Major League Baseball, García has recorded a record of 22 wins and 29 losses, a 3.59 ERA, and 26 saves. His career has included tenures with multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2014 to 2019, the Miami Marlins during 2020 and 2021, the Houston Astros in 2021, the Toronto Blue Jays for the 2022-2024 seasons, and the Seattle Mariners. It’s worth noting that he missed the entire 2017 season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery.
To create space on the roster for García, catcher Nick Raposo has been designated for assignment.
