The Jacksonville Jaguars are facing a significant setback as tight end Evan Engram is set to undergo season-ending surgery due to a torn labrum. This announcement was made by Coach Doug Pederson on Friday, just days before the Jaguars (3-10) are scheduled to play against the New York Jets (3-10). Engram will be placed on injured reserve as a result of the injury.
During the current season, Engram has posted 47 receptions totaling 365 yards along with one touchdown, marking his third year with the Jaguars. Earlier in the season, he missed four games owing to a hamstring strain. Unfortunately, he sustained a shoulder injury in the first half of last week’s narrow victory over Tennessee, and subsequent tests confirmed the severity of the issue.
Engram’s absence adds to a growing list of offensive players unavailable to the team. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is currently dealing with a concussion and a non-throwing shoulder issue, while wide receiver Christian Kirk is sidelined with a collarbone injury, and receiver Gabe Davis is out due to a knee problem.
With Engram out of the lineup, the Jaguars will rely on Brenton Strange and Luke Farrell to take on the increased responsibilities at the tight end position. Engram boasts an impressive career record, being one of only three tight ends in NFL history to achieve at least 40 receptions in each of their first eight seasons, alongside notable players like Jeremy Shockey and George Kittle. Throughout his career, Engram has amassed 496 receptions for a total of 4,922 yards and 25 touchdowns, most of which were accrued during his five seasons with the New York Giants.
