Stanley is initiating a recall of about 2.6 million of its stainless steel travel mugs, which feature switchback and trigger action lids, due to potential burn risks.
The company stated that the threads on the mugs’ lids may contract under conditions of heat and pressure, which can lead to the lid becoming detached when in use, thereby posing a risk of burns.
Reports indicate that the company has documented 91 instances globally of the lids detaching, with 16 of these cases occurring in the United States.
Of these incidents, 38 burn injuries have been reported globally, including two within the U.S., and 11 individuals worldwide have required medical treatment.
The recall affects double-walled mugs available in various colors—such as white, black, and green—and in sizes of 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz., all featuring a polypropylene lid.
The Stanley logo is prominently displayed on both the front and bottom of the mug.
These travel mugs were available for purchase on Amazon, and in major retail outlets like Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target, as well as other stores and online platforms from June 2016 until December 2024, with prices ranging from $20 to $50 based on the specific model.
Customers who own these mugs are urged to cease use immediately. Stanley is offering a complimentary replacement lid, which includes shipping.
Individuals can reach out to Stanley at 866-792-5445 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET from Monday to Friday or seek additional details and file a recall claim through their official website.
