A man in Massachusetts found himself in quite the predicament while attempting to evade law enforcement by sliding down a chimney but ended up trapped instead.

The incident unfolded when the individual, having fled onto a rooftop, inspired by what the police described as “the spirit of the holiday season,” became wedged inside the chimney on Tuesday night, prompting a rescue operation by the detectives in pursuit of him.

Footage captured by the Fall River Police Department shows a detective urgently calling out, “Hey, he’s on the roof! Get down here!” Shortly thereafter, a bystander alerted the detectives to a man who was heard “screaming” from within a nearby chimney. The detectives, skeptical but determined, climbed onto the roof and shone a flashlight down the chimney, discovering the man stuck within. One detective remarked, “You’re an idiot,” highlighting the absurdity of the situation.

In light of the unusual circumstances, the detectives enlisted the help of firefighters, who had to delicately remove bricks to extricate the man. Police later indicated that due to the nature of his “Santa-themed antics,” he was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

As of Thursday, the man remained in custody facing drug-related charges along with other unresolved warrants. His defense attorney had not provided a response to inquiries at the time. Meanwhile, another individual whom the police were seeking was spotted leaping from the rooftop and over a fence, managing to evade capture.
