BERGAMO, Italy — Kylian Mbappé marked a significant milestone by scoring his 50th goal in the Champions League, but his achievement was overshadowed when he had to leave the field during Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory against Atalanta on Tuesday due to a possible injury.
The French forward demonstrated exceptional skill as he controlled a pass from Brahim Diaz with his left foot. He swiftly maneuvered past a defender and fired a shot with his right foot, finding the back of the net in the far corner only 10 minutes into the match, giving Madrid an early lead of 1-0.
At just 25 years and 356 days old, Mbappé became the second-youngest player ever to reach the 50-goal milestone in the Champions League. Lionel Messi holds the record for the youngest, having accomplished the feat at 24 years and 284 days in 2012.
Mbappé reached this impressive milestone in 79 matches, making him the fourth-fastest player in history to do so. The record stands with Ruud van Nistelrooy, who reached 50 goals in only 62 games, followed by Messi at 66 matches and Robert Lewandowski at 77.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League with a staggering 140 goals, while Messi follows closely behind with 129.
However, the evening took a concerning turn for Mbappé, who had to exit the game later in the first half due to what appeared to be a leg issue. He was substituted by Rodrygo, raising questions about his fitness and availability for future matches.
