PARIS — Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, is set to participate in a grassroots initiative in Rwanda as part of the repercussions for his inappropriate language during a recent news conference in Singapore.

Verstappen, who secured his fourth title in Formula One last month, received this directive from the FIA, the governing body of the sport, following penalties imposed by officials due to his conduct at the media event in September.

Scheduled to attend the FIA awards ceremony in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, this upcoming Friday, the Dutch racer will engage in community service as part of his mandated assignment, as reported by the local press.

The FIA released a statement indicating that while in Kigali, Verstappen will work alongside junior competitors in a grassroots development program facilitated by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC).

This project will include the use of an FIA affordable cross car that has been constructed locally in Rwanda, based on designs provided by the FIA, highlighting a commitment to fostering local talent and promoting motorsport development in the region.
