MOBILE, Ala. — In a thrilling matchup on Sunday night, South Alabama managed to clinch a narrow victory over Jacksonville State with a score of 76-74, largely thanks to Myles Corey’s contributions on the court.
Corey scored 12 points and also racked up six assists, playing a pivotal role for the Jaguars, who now hold a record of 6-3 for the season.
Additionally, JJ Wheat matched Corey’s point total with 12 points, shooting a perfect 3 of 3 from the field and faring well at the free-throw line by converting 6 of 8 attempts.
Barry Dunning Jr. made significant contributions too, finishing the game with 11 points, shooting 4 for 12 overall, and adding seven rebounds—though he struggled from the three-point range, hitting only 2 of 8 attempts.
On the other side, the Gamecocks, who now stand at 5-4, were led by Jao Ituka, who delivered an impressive performance with 22 points.
Michael Houge also had a notable outing, contributing 17 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks, while Jaron Pierre Jr. helped with 13 points and six assists.
In the first half, Dunning stood out for South Alabama, scoring nine points and helping the team to a 39-30 lead at halftime.
The Jaguars began the second half strong, turning what was once a nine-point lead into a commanding 16-point edge with a 7-0 run, bringing the score to 46-30 with 17:38 left in the game.
Wheat was instrumental during this stretch, scoring 10 points in the second half to solidify South Alabama’s dominance.
