PARIS — Kylian Mbappé expressed his shock upon learning of media coverage from Sweden, which claimed he was under investigation for rape two months prior. This marks the first time the Real Madrid forward has publicly addressed the allegations during an interview that aired on a French television station, Canal Plus, on Sunday.
Reports from various Swedish media in October stated that Mbappé was implicated in a rape investigation following a visit to Stockholm while on break from his commitments with both Real Madrid and the French national team. At the time, Mbappé’s legal representatives firmly denied the authenticity of these claims.
During the interview, Mbappé shared his feelings: “I was surprised and I still am surprised, by the way. These are things that come into your life like that, you can’t see them coming. It’s just incomprehension. I don’t think it weighed on me in the sense that I have never considered myself involved.”
He also mentioned his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, stating that he would travel to Sweden if required, however, he confirmed that no authorities have reached out to him.
“Listen, I haven’t received anything, no summons, nothing,” he stated. “The Swedish government has not said anything, so I’m not concerned (involved).”
When these reports first surfaced in October, Swedish officials acknowledged that they were looking into a suspected rape incident that took place at a hotel in Stockholm, though they did not name any specific suspect.
As of late last month, a prosecutor informed the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the investigation remains active, but refrained from providing further details regarding the inquiry.
