INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue University is in the final stages of negotiations to appoint Barry Odom, currently the head coach at UNLV, as their new head coach, according to a source familiar with the discussions.

This individual requested to remain anonymous as the terms of the agreement are still being finalized.

Odom has steered the UNLV Rebels to two consecutive appearances in the Mountain West Conference championship games, although the team fell short in both instances against Boise State. Over the past two seasons, he has led the Rebels to a record of 19 wins and 8 losses, and previously held the head coach position at Missouri from 2016 to 2019, where he posted an overall record of 25-25.

With Odom likely stepping in, he will replace Ryan Walters, who was dismissed from his role at Purdue on Monday after two challenging seasons that resulted in a dismal record of 5 wins and 19 losses. Notably, Walters was on Odom’s coaching staff at Missouri serving as either the defensive coordinator or co-defensive coordinator during Odom’s time there.
