EL PASO, Texas — Ahamad Bynum made significant contributions off the bench, scoring 19 points to propel UTEP to a decisive 88-72 victory against Seattle U on Saturday evening.
Bynum was efficient, hitting 7 of 9 field goal attempts and converting all three of his free throws for the Miners, who now hold a record of 6-2. Alongside Bynum, Otis Frazier III contributed 18 points, showcasing his accuracy by going 6 for 9 from the field, which included a pair of 3-pointers, and finishing 4 for 4 from the charity stripe, all while distributing five assists. Kevin Kalu also played a pivotal role, scoring 13 points with a remarkable shooting percentage of 5 of 6 from the field and also making all three of his free throw attempts.
On the opposing side, the Redhawks (3-6) were spearheaded by Paris Dawson, who led his team in scoring with 18 points, along with two steals. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe contributed significantly as well, recording 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while John Christofilis added another 13 points for Seattle U.
The Miners gained the upper hand early, establishing a lead just 1:05 into the first half, which they maintained throughout the game. By halftime, UTEP had built a commanding 48-23 advantage, with Frazier notably scoring 12 points in the first half. In the second half, UTEP continued to extend its lead, reaching 77-49, fueled by a quick 7-0 scoring spurt. Bynum emerged as a key figure in the latter part of the game, leading the scoring effort in the second half with a total of 12 points as UTEP secured the win.
