THIBODAUX, La. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Nicholls State secured a narrow victory over New Orleans, finishing with a score of 73-70. Byron Ireland was instrumental in the win, contributing 22 points to the Colonels’ effort.
Ireland also made an impact on the boards, grabbing seven rebounds throughout the game. Alongside him, Trae English added 18 points, displaying strong shooting with a 7 for 13 performance, including one successful 3-pointer out of five attempts and converting three out of four free-throws. Robert Brown III further supported the team by scoring 10 points, hitting three of six field goal attempts, one of three from beyond the arc, and completing all three of his free-throw attempts.
The Privateers struggled but found offensive leadership from Michael Thomas, who finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. James White also contributed significantly to New Orleans’ effort with 15 points.
Looking ahead, Nicholls State will face Southern University at New Orleans in their next game scheduled for Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Privateers are set to travel to Iowa for their upcoming contest on Sunday.
