DENVER, Pa. — A Pennsylvania couple, who separated nearly five decades ago, is making plans to remarry.
Fay Gable and Robert Wenrich’s journey began when he was a close friend of her older brother, and he promised them that he would one day marry her. The couple tied the knot in November 1951 and welcomed four children into their family before divorcing in 1975, citing personal reasons they prefer to keep private.
Both Fay and Robert remarried after their divorce and spent many years with their new partners until their spouses passed away. Despite this, family members note that Gable and Wenrich maintained a strong friendship, frequently participating in family occasions together. Recently, they have made the heartfelt decision to renew their vows.
“They’re like two teenagers who are in love. They do everything together,” said Carol Smith, their youngest daughter, in a statement to LNP. She shared her father’s sentiments as well, noting, “He mentioned, ‘She was the first love of my life. I never thought I’d get her back. And now that I did, I’m not wasting any time.’”
Robert recently celebrated his 94th birthday while Fay is 89. Together, they have a large family that includes 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and even twin great-great-grandchildren. Fay also has two stepsons, all of whom are expected to be present at their wedding on Sunday, taking place in the borough of Denver, located in southeastern Pennsylvania.
“I believe we’ll be happy together for the next couple of years,” Robert expressed, demonstrating his optimism about this new chapter in their lives.
