OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — The military junta currently in power in Burkina Faso has announced the dismissal of Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambela, along with the dissolution of the existing national government.

In a statement issued by the junta leader, Ibrahim Traore, it was noted that the officials from the disbanded government will remain in their roles temporarily until a new cabinet is established. However, no specific reasons were provided for these sudden changes in leadership.

The junta initially took control in September 2022 after overthrowing Lt. Col. Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who had himself come to power approximately eight months prior through a coup that removed the democratically elected president, Roch Marc Kaboré.
