NEW ORLEANS — The Pelicans are set to welcome back Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones for their matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday evening.
Jones, recognized as New Orleans’ leading defender for several seasons, has been sidelined for 18 games due to a strained right shoulder.
“He’s our defensive captain,” said Coach Willie Green regarding Jones. “Herb’s one of those players who can extinguish problems when he’s on the court.”
Ingram, on the other hand, has missed the last five games due to a calf injury on his right leg.
With both players back, the Pelicans can finally align five of their six key contributors, which includes guards Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum, alongside forward Trey Murphy III, marking the first time this season they all play together since October 29.
However, star forward Zion Williamson will remain out indefinitely due to a left hamstring strain.
Despite this setback, Green expressed optimism about having more starting players available as the Pelicans, currently at a 4-18 record, aim to rise from the bottom of the Western Conference.
“This gives us the chance to show what we truly believe we can achieve,” Green remarked.
After starting the season with two wins, the Pelicans have faced a daunting stretch, suffering 18 defeats in their last 20 games, including a disheartening nine-game losing streak.
On Thursday, New Orleans will face a Suns team missing key players, including star forward Kevin Durant, due to a left ankle sprain, and center Jusuf Nurkic, who is out with a right thigh bruise; both are expected to miss around a week. Additionally, rookie Ryan Dunn has been ruled out as well, having been considered questionable with a sore left ankle.
