PHILADELPHIA — In an exciting matchup at the Cathedral Classic Invitational held in Philadelphia, the Maine Black Bears triumphed over the Navy Midshipmen with a score of 71-66 on Sunday. Quion Burns delivered a stellar performance, contributing 21 points with impressive shooting, going 8 for 9 from the field and hitting all four of his free throws.
Supporting Burns, Kellen Tynes had a noteworthy game as well, scoring 19 points along with dishing out eight assists and making four steals. AJ Lopez also played a role in the victory, managing to score 10 points despite shooting 2 for 9 from the field, including one 3-pointer out of three attempts, and converting five of six free throws.
For the Navy team, Aidan Kehoe was the standout player, achieving a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jinwoo Kim chipped in with 13 points, while Donovan Draper added nine points to the team’s efforts.
Maine faced a challenge in the first half, where Tynes contributed nine points, and by halftime, the team was trailing 33-28. However, Tynes showed resilience, scoring the last seven points for Maine that ultimately sealed their five-point victory.
Looking ahead, Maine is set to play against Maine-Augusta at home this coming Tuesday, while Navy will travel to face NJIT on Saturday.
