BERLIN — Omar Marmoush showcased his outstanding skill once again by scoring two goals as Eintracht Frankfurt secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Heidenheim on Sunday. With this triumph, Frankfurt climbed to within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, currently sitting in second place.
The Egyptian forward struck in the first half, taking advantage of a pass from Nathaniel Brown to send a powerful, first-touch shot past goalkeeper Kevin Müller. Marmoush’s impressive form continued when substitute Farès Chaïbi scored early in the second half. Just after that, in the 58th minute, Marmoush drove through Heidenheim’s defense and scored his second, marking his remarkable achievement of 13 goals in his last 12 league matches.
Marmoush narrowly missed out on a potential hat-trick late in the game when Müller saved a one-on-one opportunity. However, Hugo Ekitiké ensured the scoreline reflected Frankfurt’s dominance by adding a fourth goal in stoppage time, converting a cross from Ansgar Knauff. Bayern Munich leads the league with 30 points, while Eintracht Frankfurt has amassed 26 points. Heidenheim, on the other hand, is struggling in 16th place with just 10 points.
In another match on Sunday, Mainz secured a 2-0 win over Hoffenheim, thanks to the efforts of striker Jonathan Burkardt, who scored both of the team’s goals in the first half. Burkardt’s recent performances have earned him a spot on Germany’s national team this year. In just four minutes, he netted his first goal by finishing off a low cross from Lee Jae-sung at the back post.
Burkardt’s second goal came in the 24th minute when he hit a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that found the top-right corner, leaving Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with no chance. This match marked the second time that coach Christian Ilzer was in charge of Hoffenheim since taking over from Pellegrino Matarazzo, and his team currently sits in 14th place in the league standings. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich gained a point in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, although they suffered a setback as star striker Harry Kane was forced to leave the match due to a hamstring injury.
