PULLMAN, Wash. — In an exciting finish, Wyoming secured a thrilling 15-14 victory over Washington State on Saturday night, thanks to a late 18-yard touchdown pass from Evan Svoboda to John Michael Gyllenborg, coming just 24 seconds before the game concluded. This marked the end of the season for the Cowboys, who wrapped up with a record of 3-9.

Throughout the match, Wyoming’s scoring was limited to field goals by John Hoyland in the first three quarters, covering distances of 40, 22, and 42 yards. It wasn’t until Svoboda’s game-winning touchdown that the Cowboys found the end zone.

Washington State initially took the lead with a 37-yard touchdown pass from John Mateer to Kyle Williams during their second offensive series, putting the Cougars up 7-0. Wyoming responded with Hoyland’s first field goal just before the end of the first quarter, narrowing the gap to 7-3.

The Cougars extended their lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter with a successful 10-play drive capped off by a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Mateer. A fumble by Mateer was recovered by Ethan Day at the Wyoming 35-yard line right before halftime, but despite moving the ball to the Cougars’ 5-yard line, Wyoming was only able to score a short field goal, leaving an 8-point deficit at the break.

In the third quarter, Hoyland added another field goal for Wyoming, bringing the score to 14-8, concluding a lengthy 14-play drive. Washington State faced struggles offensively during this period, managing only 12 plays and going three-and-out on two occasions.

The decisive touchdown for Wyoming came at the end of an intense 14-play, 90-yard drive orchestrated by Svoboda, which unfolded with 3:38 left to play. Svoboda completed 21 of 34 passes for a total of 206 yards, including one interception. Meanwhile, Mateer for Washington State completed 16 of 22 passes for 182 yards and also had one interception, in addition to rushing for 56 yards on 18 carries, as the Cougars, who finished their season at 8-4, now await their bowl-game matchup.
