MIAMI — Florida International University concluded its regular season on a high note, defeating Middle Tennessee 35-24 on Saturday, capped by a standout performance from quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who passed for 319 yards and threw three touchdown passes.
The scoring for FIU began with a 1-yard touchdown run from Lexington Joseph in the first quarter. Devonte Lyons later contributed a 21-yard rushing touchdown, establishing a solid early lead that the Panthers never relinquished. Jenkins showcased his prowess by connecting with Dean Patterson on touchdown passes of 38 and 19 yards, as well as a 50-yard pass to Eric Rivers, which represented FIU’s largest advantage in the game at 35-17 in the fourth quarter with just over 11 minutes remaining.
For the Blue Raiders, Nicholas Vattiato was also impressive, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns despite facing an interception during the match. The defeat left Middle Tennessee with a final season record of 3-9 overall and 2-6 in Conference USA play.
This victory allowed FIU to close its season with a 4-8 record, including a 3-5 mark in conference games, showcasing a competitive spirit that has the potential to set the groundwork for future successes.
