WOLVERHAMPTON, England – Wolverhampton’s head coach, Gary O’Neil, affirmed his complete support for goalkeeper Jose Sa following a heated encounter with frustrated fans during the halftime of the team’s disappointing 4-2 defeat against Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Sa found himself in a challenging position, conceding two out of the record three penalties that were successfully converted by Justin Kluivert after he mishandled a couple of back-passes. In the midst of the match, the Portuguese goalkeeper approached the upset fans, leading to their removal from the stadium.
Although O’Neil did not witness the altercation firsthand, he quickly came to Sa’s defense. He remarked on how such intense situations often amplify emotional reactions and responses. With the team’s current placement at the bottom of the league, O’Neil is aware of the mounting pressure surrounding both himself and the players.
“Jose Sa has my full support. He can rely on me for anything he needs,” O’Neil stated, acknowledging the difficulty of the passes Sa received during the match. “The first pass was one he could have cleared much more swiftly. I assure you, all my players have access to my unwavering support. We confront this challenging situation as a cohesive unit.”
