An apparent airstrike in central Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least 18 individuals early Sunday, as reported by Palestinian medical officials. The strike targeted a mosque that was serving as a shelter for displaced individuals near the al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir al-Balah, according to a statement from the hospital.
Upon examination by an Associated Press journalist, the morgue at the hospital revealed the bodies of the deceased, all of whom were men. Hospital records indicated that two additional men were severely injured in the attack.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a statement regarding the airstrike on the mosque.
The casualties from this recent attack contribute to the rising death toll in Gaza, which the Palestinian Health Ministry estimates to be approaching 42,000. The ministry’s records do not specify between civilian and militant fatalities; however, a significant number of the deceased are reported to be women and children.
Reports on this incident were collected by Magdy in Cairo, Egypt.
