Bay FC and the city of San Francisco have unveiled a joint initiative to construct a dedicated training facility for the National Women’s Soccer League team on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. The new complex is set to encompass three training fields along with team offices and various amenities to support the club’s operations efficiently. This newly planned facility is intended to complement the existing and upcoming youth recreational facilities on the island.
Originally established for the World’s Fair back in 1939, Treasure Island later served as a naval base until its closure in 1997. With Bay FC’s proposal to establish its training grounds on the historic island, a new chapter is set to unfold in this iconic location.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed expressed her enthusiasm for the endeavor, stating, “Bay FC is bringing a whole new level of excitement not just to soccer in the Bay Area, but to women’s sports. This also is another major success for Treasure Island, a future neighborhood that will be home to thousands of people, thriving businesses, iconic views, and now a new soccer destination that will bring together our professional players and community from across the Bay Area.”
The construction of the facility is scheduled to commence in 2025 with operations expected to begin in 2027, pending approvals from the Treasure Island Development Authority and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. As Bay FC continues to make its mark on the NWSL after joining this season, the team currently hosts its home games at PayPal Park in San Jose.
