The Detroit Tigers claimed a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, extending their winning streak to five games. Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter each hit a home run in the sixth inning, contributing to the Tigers’ win. The Angels, currently at the bottom of the AL West with a 54-78 record, suffered their sixth consecutive loss and have only won two of their last 14 games.
The game faced a delay of 2 hours and 45 minutes due to heavy storms, with the first pitch thrown at 9:45 p.m. However, the late start did not hinder the Tigers’ performance. Brant Hurter secured his second major league win in his first start by allowing two runs on four hits over five innings. Jason Foley recorded his 18th save by getting the final out.
Johnny Cueto took the loss for the Angels, giving up six runs on six hits, including three home runs, in five-plus innings during his second start of the season. The Angels initially took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but were unable to maintain their advantage.
The Angels made some roster changes, including placing LHP Matt Moore on the 15-day injured list due to a left forearm strain and selecting the contract of RHP Ryan Miller from Triple-A Salt Lake City.
In the next game of the series, RHP Griffin Canning (4-11, 5.18 ERA) will start for the Angels. Detroit plans to utilize an opener in the upcoming game.
The teams will face off again in the second game of the series on Wednesday.
