— A creative take on the concept of a “pandemic production,” “Grand Theft Hamlet” presents two actors on a mission to perform “Hamlet” in the intense and violent environment of “Grand Theft Auto.” Made entirely within the game, this film by Pinny Grylls and Sam Crane won the best documentary award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. A film reviewer noted that while Shakespeare might not have envisioned the challenges of performing in such a setting, the grotesque world of the video game could serve as a fitting backdrop for a play filled with tragedy. The film will be available for streaming on Mubi starting February 21.
— Bill Skarsgård stars in the revamped version of “The Crow,” directed by Rupert Sanders, which launches on Starz on Wednesday. Although the film received mixed reviews from critics upon its release in August, overshadowed by the original 1994 movie with Brandon Lee, it is said to improve as it progresses. Critics have suggested that while the film is not entirely lacking in merit, it faces the daunting task of escaping the legacy of Lee’s portrayal and the classic original, even as it attempts to adapt to modern sensibilities.
