LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Zawdie Jackson delivered a standout performance with 21 points in New Mexico State’s decisive 76-48 victory over Florida International on Saturday night.
Jackson showcased his shooting prowess, going 8 for 11 from the floor, which included 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, contributing significantly to the Aggies’ success as they improved to a record of 13-12 overall and 6-6 in Conference USA.
Jaden Harris added another layer to the team’s offensive output, scoring 13 points with a shooting line of 3 for 8, which included making 3 of 7 three-point attempts, and was perfect from the charity stripe, hitting all four free throws. Robert Carpenter chimed in with 11 points, going 4 for 12 overall and nailing 3 of his 8 attempts from three-point territory.
On the other side, Florida International (8-18, 2-11) struggled to find their rhythm, with Jayden Brewer leading the Panthers with 13 points. Vianney Salatchoum contributed eight points along with six rebounds, while Jonathan Aybar added a quiet five points and six boards.
New Mexico State established dominance early in the match, taking the lead just four minutes into the game and maintaining it throughout. They ended the first half with a 37-26 advantage, with Harris scoring eight points in the first half. The Aggies surged ahead in the second half, expanding their lead to 50-31, courtesy of a strong 10-2 scoring run. Jackson was particularly effective in the final half, scoring 16 points to help secure the victory for his team.
Looking ahead, New Mexico State is set to face Jacksonville State on the road this Thursday, while Florida International will be traveling to Liberty for their next game on Saturday.
