The Chicago White Sox have reportedly reached an agreement with center fielder Michael A. Taylor on a one-year deal worth $1.95 million, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. This information emerged on Tuesday, although the report has not been officially confirmed, as the contract is still subject to a physical examination.

Last season, Taylor played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he had a challenging year at the plate, achieving a batting average of .193. Over the course of 113 games, he hit five home runs and recorded 21 RBIs, resulting in a .543 OPS. He also faced difficulties in making contact, striking out 105 times during his 269 at-bats.

In light of his experience, Taylor, who will celebrate his 34th birthday next month, offers the White Sox additional flexibility in center field. The team is currently in a rebuilding phase and may consider trading Luis Robert Jr., making Taylor a valuable asset in that scenario. Alternatively, he could serve as a backup to Roberts, allowing the All-Star to manage his workload and stay healthy throughout the season.
