MIAMI LAKES, Fla. — Henri Crockett, a former player in the prestigious Orange Bowl, has been appointed as the new president and chair of the Orange Bowl Committee, marking a significant milestone as he becomes the first individual to have participated in the game and later assume these leadership positions.

Crockett’s term will last for one year, during which time he will oversee the upcoming Orange Bowl, scheduled for January 1, 2026, as a crucial quarterfinal event in the College Football Playoff. Additionally, the Orange Bowl Committee will play a vital role in hosting the College Football Playoff national championship on January 19, 2026.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Crockett stated, “It is an incredible honor to become the 87th President of the Orange Bowl Committee. This organization has significantly influenced my life, both as a player and as a member of the South Florida community. Being able to serve in this leadership capacity is a continuation of my lifelong dedication to empowering others, particularly our youth, through sports, education, and mentorship.”

Beyond his involvement with the Orange Bowl, Crockett is also the co-founder and president of the Crockett Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Broward County, Florida. This foundation focuses on providing after-school and summer developmental programs, including coding initiatives, aimed at middle school students.

Originally from Pompano Beach, Florida, Crockett honed his skills playing college football at Florida State University. He was a notable participant in the Seminoles’ triumphant Orange Bowl victory over Nebraska, which clinched the national championship for the 1993 season with a score of 18-16. Following his collegiate career, he spent seven years in the NFL playing for the Atlanta Falcons and the Minnesota Vikings. Notably, Crockett was a starter for the Falcons during Super Bowl 33 in 1998, held at what is now known as Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, the same venue that hosts the Orange Bowl.
