STANFORD, Calif. — In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, Wake Forest secured a 79-73 victory over Stanford, completing a season sweep against the Cardinal. Cameron Hildreth led the Demon Deacons with an impressive 22 points, while Hunter Sallis contributed 19 points to the win.

The game featured a tight contest with the score being tied 12 times and 17 lead changes throughout. Wake Forest showcased remarkable efficiency at the free-throw line, converting 25 out of 33 attempts, including an outstanding 15 of 16 in the second half. After the game was tied at 69 with just 1:42 remaining, the Demon Deacons made eight consecutive free throws to ensure their victory.

Ty-Laur Johnson added 14 points for Wake Forest, which now boasts a record of 17-6 and 9-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tre’Von Spillers supported the team with 12 points. Sallis also made significant contributions beyond scoring, tallying seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Maxime Raynaud was the standout for Stanford, recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, along with six assists. Chisom Okpara and Oziyah Sellers added 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Ryan Agarwal chipped in with 12. The Cardinal played without their starting point guard Jaylen Blakes, who missed his second consecutive game due to a head injury.

As the closing minutes approached, Hildreth’s free throws gave Wake Forest a crucial advantage. Despite the efforts from Stanford, including two successful free throws and a steal, they couldn’t overcome the Demon Deacons’ late-game poise. The Cardinal finished the game strong at the line, going 19 of 21.

At halftime, Hildreth had already made 5 of 6 shots, leading Wake Forest with 15 points as they headed into the break with a narrow 40-37 lead. Earlier in the first half, Sallis had completed a three-point play, capping an 8-0 run that provided the Demon Deacons with their largest lead of the game at 35-26.

Looking ahead, Wake Forest will travel to California on Saturday, while N.C. State will visit Stanford in their next matchup.
