Detroit mother faces charges for allegedly murdering her son and hiding his body in their backyard last autumn.

DETROIT — A woman has been charged with the murder of her 9-year-old son, who was allegedly killed and subsequently buried in their backyard, according to statements from the local prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.

On January 6, while preparing the residence for new occupants, the landlord uncovered a shallow grave containing the child’s remains. Initially, no further details were provided by the authorities, but Detroit police confirmed that an investigation was actively ongoing.

It has been revealed that Zemar King was suffocated on October 24, just two weeks prior to his 41-year-old mother’s departure for Georgia with her younger child, a 3-year-old named. The Wayne County prosecutor, Kym Worthy, provided these details during the announcement of the charges.

“I have served as a prosecutor for many years, and I often think I have seen everything,” Worthy stated. “However, the grim reality of this child abuse case surpasses that notion. The alleged behavior exhibited by this defendant is among the most heartless I have encountered, and my hope is to never witness anything similar in the future.”

Authorities apprehended the mother on January 10 in Cobb County, Georgia, for a separate matter. Currently, she is in custody and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan on charges of murder and additional offenses.

Worthy also noted that the father of Zemar has only recently learned about his son’s tragic fate. Todd Bettison, the interim police chief of Detroit, expressed his disbelief regarding the case, stating, “This incident is profoundly shocking. In my 27 years in law enforcement, I cannot recall encountering anything like this.”
