Trump’s tariff battle heats up: Canada & Mexico hit back!

Canada and Mexico are hitting back! Just hours after President Trump signed an executive order imposing hefty tariffs, both countries announced tough countermeasures. The trade war is heating up fast!

United against Trump’s tariffs

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stood united. They vowed to fight back against Trump’s 25% tariff on their exports. Trudeau called it an economic attack, while Sheinbaum dismissed Trump’s claims that the move would curb drug trafficking.

The impact of tariffs

Trump’s tariffs hit Canada and Mexico the hardest. Chinese imports face only a 10% tariff, while Canadian energy products also get slapped with 10%. But Canada isn’t backing down. The country is retaliating with its own 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods. That includes beer, wine, bourbon, fruits, vegetables, perfume, clothing, and shoes.

Trudeau warns of hard times

Trudeau warned of dark days ahead. “Many of us will be deeply affected,” he said. He urged Canadians to support one another and even suggested ditching American products altogether—especially Florida orange juice.

The Prime Minister, who is leaving office in six weeks, didn’t hold back. He called the tariffs a direct attack on Canada. But he also reminded Americans that they, too, would suffer. Prices on food and gas would rise, and U.S. manufacturing plants could shut down. He accused Trump of betraying America’s closest ally.

No talks yet, but Trudeau stands firm

Despite the escalating trade war, Trudeau hasn’t spoken to Trump since his inauguration last week. But he remains determined to find a resolution—one that doesn’t involve tariffs.

Trump, however, is playing hardball. He threatened even harsher tariffs if Canada fights back. Trudeau stood firm, insisting that all Canadian provincial leaders are on board with retaliation.

Mexico fires back

Meanwhile, Mexico isn’t staying silent. President Sheinbaum Pardo launched a fiery counterattack. She called Trump’s suggestion that Mexico aids criminals “absurd.” Instead, she pointed the finger at U.S. gun dealers, who she claimed are arming drug cartels.

Sheinbaum didn’t stop there. She accused the U.S. of failing to tackle its own fentanyl crisis. She claimed American authorities ignore narcotics sales and money laundering within their borders.

In response to Trump’s tariffs, Sheinbaum ordered immediate retaliation. Though she didn’t reveal full details, she mentioned “Plan B,” which includes tariff and non-tariff measures.

Seeking dialogue

She also extended an olive branch. She proposed a U.S.-Mexico working group to address security and drug issues through dialogue—not tariffs. She reminded Trump that recent talks with the State Department had successfully tackled migration issues.

China joins the battle

China, another target of Trump’s trade crackdown, is also pushing back. Beijing plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization. They vowed to take strong countermeasures to protect their economic interests.

China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposes this,” the commerce ministry declared.

The trade war is in full swing. Tensions are rising. And the world is watching. Stay tuned for updates!
