WACO, Texas — Robert Wright III delivered an impressive performance by scoring 20 of his 24 points after the intermission, leading Baylor to an incredible comeback and an 81-70 victory over the 11th-ranked Kansas on Saturday afternoon.

The Jayhawks, who were in command with a 40-21 lead at halftime, experienced a shocking collapse that marked the largest blown lead in their program’s history. This defeat followed an earlier upset when sixth-ranked Houston staged a significant comeback to secure a double-overtime victory at Allen Fieldhouse just a week prior.

Baylor managed to rally from a significant 21-point deficit, with Wright adding crucial free throws to put the Bears ahead 47-46 with just over 13 minutes left in the game. The team had been trailing 38-17 late in the first half before beginning their resurgence.

The turning point came when Jalen Celestine hit a pivotal three-pointer, giving Baylor the lead for good as they outscored Kansas 18-7 from that moment onwards. Kansas had previously built their lead up to 10 points again before Baylor surged ahead.

Hunter Dickinson contributed 20 points for Kansas, while Dajuan Harris Jr. added 12. On the other hand, Baylor saw Norchad Omier excel with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The Bears also dealt with an injury to VJ Edgecombe, who scored 14 points but exited early in the second half after attempting a layup.

Baylor’s effective full-court pressure significantly disrupted Kansas’s offense, resulting in the Jayhawks shooting only 36% in the second half. While Kansas dominated bench scoring in the first half, 20-0, the Bears rebounded to outscore them 12-8 after halftime.

Looking ahead, Kansas is scheduled to face No. 3 Iowa State at home on Monday, while Baylor will travel to take on 22nd-ranked Texas Tech on Tuesday.
