STANFORD, Calif. — In an impressive performance, Maxime Raynaud notched 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, leading Stanford to a 70-61 victory over Syracuse on Wednesday night. This win marked Raynaud’s 17th double-double, placing him at the top of the nation’s stats in that category this season.

Stanford jumped out to an explosive start, securing a 17-0 lead as Syracuse struggled, missing its first seven shots. Raynaud contributed significantly to the early advantage, hitting a couple of three-pointers and tallying eight points during the run. Although Syracuse fell behind 25-2, they began to rally with a 12-1 scoring stretch, eventually reducing the deficit to 33-24 by halftime.

Throughout the first half, Stanford’s shooting from beyond the arc was exceptional, having made more three-pointers (four) than Syracuse had field goals (two) at one point. In the final ten minutes of the half, Syracuse managed to convert eight of 15 shots, while Stanford faltered slightly with three successful baskets out of 13 attempts. By halftime, Raynaud had already clinched his double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second half, Syracuse got as close as six points after Jyare Davis scored twice, followed by a layup from JJ Starling, tightening the score to 62-56 with just over three minutes left. However, Raynaud quickly responded with a critical jumper, quelling Syracuse’s momentum.

For Stanford, Jaylen Blakes added 14 points, while teammates Oziyah Sellers and Benny Gealer chipped in with 10 points each. Raynaud’s performance also put him among the top five in Stanford’s history for career rebounds, accumulating a total of 867.

On the other side, Jaquan Carlos provided a spark off the bench for Syracuse, scoring 16 points while making all his attempts, including two three-pointers. Eddie Lampkin also contributed, going four-for-four from the field and finishing with 12 points.

This matchup was a rematch of their only previous encounter, where Syracuse came out on top in the 2011 NIT Season Tipoff held at Madison Square Garden. As the season progresses, Syracuse is set to face California on Saturday, while Stanford will play at SMU.
