U.S. military personnel start deploying to Texas and San Diego to bolster border security efforts

Active-duty military personnel are set to arrive in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego as early as Thursday evening, marking the initiation of a new deployment aimed at fortifying security along the southern border.
On Wednesday, the Pentagon revealed plans to send approximately 1,500 troops as part of a broader effort to respond to President Trump’s executive directive focusing on stringent immigration measures.

U.S. officials have indicated that more troops may soon be dispatched, as defense and homeland security leadership work to fulfill increased demands for support.
While the precise additional troop count remains uncertain, officials anticipate that the incoming forces will comprise active-duty personnel, National Guard members, and reservists drawn from various branches, including land, air, and naval forces.
Some defense experts have estimated that the total number could reach into the thousands.

The initial troops being deployed consist of around 1,000 Army soldiers from diverse units, alongside approximately 500 Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton in California.
Officials revealed on Thursday that a significant portion of these forces is expected to reach El Paso, potentially including Fort Bliss, or arrive in San Diego by Friday, where they will receive mission directives and prepare for tactical deployment along the border.
The officials providing this information requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of troop movements.

Currently, there are already about 2,500 National Guard and Reserve personnel at the border, and the new influx of 1,500 will further augment this presence.
Officials emphasized that due to the extensive nearly 2,000-mile length of the border with Mexico, additional military support will be necessary to assist in the implementation of concertina wire barriers, as well as to offer vital transportation, intelligence, and ancillary support to the Border Patrol.

As of Thursday, there have been no formal requests for military bases to accommodate migrants or for the deployment of troops for enforcement purposes.
